Mixing up your own taco seasoning is such a cinch I recommend everyone do it! I don’t know why I haven’t done a post about it before now since I’ve been making my own seasoning mix for years.
Sometimes you get a hankering for a taco and you don’t have any of those packets on hand. . . that’s how I started making my own. A trip to the store just to buy a packet of spices that I already have in my own cupboard didn’t seem smart. What a complete waste of time. And money.
You can tweak it to suit your own tastes. Maybe you like more chili powder or don’t like oregano in it. . . you can use this as a starting point to make your own personalized mix.
I usually double or triple this recipe being it will last for a while in a tightly covered glass jar.
Mixing up your own taco seasoning is such a cinch I recommend everyone do it. Not only is it a money-saver but you don't have to worry about running out of those packets.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Combine all the seasonings together in a jar and shake until well mixed.
- Use 2 tablespoons (I use 2 rounded) seasoning mix for every pound of ground beef plus 1/2 - 2/3 cup water.
- You can tweak the seasoning to suit your own tastes. I went easy on the salt so you can salt and pepper to taste.

Thanks for this! I used to have a recipe a long time ago, and I lost it!
I love this. I’ve started only using my own taco seasoning after reading the back of a couple packets a few years ago – yikes! There’s some scary stuff in those, including lots of MSG. The cornstarch is not something I’ve used before, but is a good idea!

Plus most of the packets have MSG in them! Yuck! I’d much rather make my own.

Good idea. Tacos are my fav too, never think to make seasoning in home. Amazing!
