The second round of Burger Club ratings are in! This time around it was Katie Lee’s Award-Winning Logan County Grilled Cheese Burger. It is a thin burger patty sandwiched between slices of toasted bread melted with American cheese and onions. The burger is also mixed with egg, seasonings and onion beforehand. Katie Lee won the Burger Bash in NYC at the Food and Wine Festival with this burger.
This is the criteria used to rate the burger:
1 Star = Didn’t like and wouldn’t make again.
4 Stars = Loved! Will make often.
Debbi of Debbi Does Dinner…Healthy & Low Calorie loved the burger…as did her entire family. Debbi worked to cut down on the calories and make it healthier by using ground turkey, 2% cheese, whole wheat bread, and a light butter substitute. Debbie and her entire family rated it 4 stars.
Bob over at Cooking Stuff is back again and says “this is awesome” but that he might be biased because he’s “been making something like it since he was a teenager.” He rated it 4 stars.
Kristin of Holy Cannoli Recipes made her burgers a little larger and used Cheddar instead of American cheese. Kristin liked the flavor but didn’t think there was anything special to set it over the top. She would make it again but wouldn’t rave about it. Kristin rated it 3 stars.
Barbara of Barbara Bakes says “the burger was a hit with my family.” Barbara thought “it tasted like a delightful combination of a thin slice of grilled meat loaf on a crispy, gooey grilled cheese sandwich.” She loved how quick and easy it was to make; a great meal for a busy night. Barbara rated it 3.5 stars. One of her sons rated it a 9 and the other a 3.5.
Krista over at The Double Dipped Life loved the burger too! Krista also made changes by leaving out the onions on the patty, adding tomatoes and substituting whole wheat buns for the bread that she grilled panini style on her George grill. She thought it had tons of flavor and chowed down on it so fast that she didn’t get a picture! Krista rated it 4 stars.
Here is what I had to say in my initial post
“These are the epitome of comfort food: a rich, thin, juicy burger patty trapped between buttery, toasted bread and ooey-gooey, molten cheese. Mouth-watering, melt-in-your mouth delicious!
I’m giving it 4 stars. I could eat these every day. Their just dreamy.”
Overall I think everyone except one person loved the burger. I averaged the ratings and the end result is a 3.75 our of 4! Almost perfect and it beats out the Green Chile and Cream Cheese Burger that we rated at 3.2 out of 4 stars.
Logan County Burgers

1 pound ground beef (85 % lean)
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 medium yellow onion, half grated, the other half thinly sliced
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
12 slices white bread
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
12 slices American cheese, optional
1. In a medium bowl, combine the beef, egg, grated onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined.
2. Form into thin patties. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
3. Heat a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the burgers about 3 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. Drain the grease from the skillet.
4. In the same skillet, place six slices of bread, butter side down. Top each with a slice of cheese, if desired, some onions and a burger. Top with remaining slices of cheese, if using, and bread, butter side up.
